An apple a day...

An apple a day...

keeps the apple farmers happy.

keeps the doctor away.

makes the teacher happy.

Where do I come up with this stuff?

When I taught kindergarten and pre kindergarten, we would teach an entire unit on farming and about the farm. We would read books about the farm and about growing apples, in particular. The students thought it was fun because we got to visit a pretend farm that is in the city that has animals that they have never seen in their short lives. Most children at the school where I taught thought that milk and eggs came from the grocery store (instead of from cows and hens). I didn't grow up on a farm but growing up we did visit Iowa a lot and you can't visit Iowa without learning about cows and hens. One of my aunts actually lived on a small farm and kept some sheep which we would try to play with (they were rather shy though). I thank my parents for always striving to give me a well rounded education outside of my public education. More later...
